Truck & Vehicle Fire Suppression Systems

Supply & Installation of Vehicle Fire Suppression Systems for all goods vehicles in the UK, including Specialised Trucks, HGVs, & LCVs.

Fire Detection & Protection for Your Goods Vehicle

At Pyromatic, we offer UNECE R107-compliant fire prevention systems for all types of vehicles. While R107 is specified for Passenger Vehicles, we apply the same system and performance requirements to our Commercial Vehicle Installations. They provide instant fire detection & suppression, along with alarm signalling to the driver/operator.

ILP Dry Powder Fire Suppression for Vehicle Engines

Our AutoFireX® Indirect Low Pressure (ILP) Fire Suppression Systems use Dry Chemical ABC Powder to effectively protect various hazardous areas, such as engine compartments, hydraulic lines, & manifolds, electric motors, pumps, & batteries, as well as hydraulic pumps, cooling motors, & pumps.

Offering dependable, automatic fire detection and suppression 24/7, these standalone systems respond within seconds to minimise engine damage and downtime. Featuring UL Recognised Components AutoFireX® Fire Detection Tubes and Heat Sensing Cables (LHSC), they are equipped with intrinsically safe Linear Heat Detection systems, which can detect fires at multiple points along their entire length.

The installation process is straightforward, allowing for easy retrofitting for both new and existing goods vehicles.

Advantages of Our Vehicle Fire Suppression Systems

These Vehicle Fire Suppression Systems are engineered to activate only during an actual fire or when exposed to significant heat, preventing false alarms and unnecessary discharges. After activation, they can be easily cleaned and serviced on-site. Equipped with long-lasting fire detection tubes and agents, they are built for multiple uses, making them cost-effective over time. They utilise dry chemical powders that are safe for both your vehicles and the environment.

Additionally, the manual release monitoring unit is situated in the operator cabin and enables immediate manual operation or discharge in case of a fire, in addition to system health monitoring and fire alerts. With fewer components than traditional systems, these systems require minimal to no maintenance.

Vehicle Fire Suppression System FAQs

Fleet operators, transport managers and vehicle owners regularly ask us how automatic fire suppression works on HGVs, LCVs and specialised trucks. Below, we answer the most common questions about our systems, from detection and compliance to installation and servicing.

What is a vehicle fire suppression system?

A vehicle fire suppression system is an automatic system fitted to a truck, van or specialised vehicle that detects a fire and discharges an extinguishing agent onto the affected area within seconds.

At Pyromatic, our ILP automatic systems protect high-risk areas such as engine compartments, hydraulic lines, manifolds, electric motors, pumps and batteries, and alert the driver when a fire is detected.

How does a vehicle fire suppression system work?

Our systems use Linear Heat Detection, in the form of fire detection tubes and Linear Heat Sensing Cables (LHSC), routed through the vehicle’s hazard areas. The detection line can sense fire at any point along its length. When it does, the system automatically releases Dry Chemical ABC Powder onto the fire and sends an alarm signal to the driver’s cab. It works 24/7 and does not depend on the driver noticing the fire.

Are fire suppression systems a legal requirement for HGVs and goods vehicles in the UK?

UNECE Regulation 107 requires automatic fire detection and suppression in the engine compartments of buses and coaches carrying more than 22 passengers. For goods vehicles, suppression is not mandated by R107. However, operators must still meet their health and safety duties, fire risk assessments and insurer requirements. As a member of the FIA (SP203-3) and ISO 9001:2015 registered company, we apply the same R107 system and performance requirements to our commercial vehicle installations.

Which vehicles can you fit a fire suppression system to?

We supply and install vehicle fire suppression systems for all goods vehicles in the UK, including HGVs, LCVs, delivery vehicles and specialised trucks. We also protect coaches and buses, waste handling mobile plant and agricultural machinery.

Can a fire suppression system be retrofitted to an existing vehicle?

Yes. Our fire suppression systems are standalone and straightforward to install, so they can be retrofitted to existing goods vehicles as well as fitted to new ones. Each installation is designed around the vehicle’s specific fire hazards, such as fuel, hydraulic and electrical risks.

Will the system go off accidentally?

Our systems activate only when there is an actual fire or significant heat exposure, which prevents false alarms and unnecessary discharges. The driver can also trigger the system manually from the monitoring unit in the cab. The same unit shows system health and fire alerts.

What happens to my vehicle after the system discharges?

The system discharges Dry Chemical ABC Powder, which suppresses the fire quickly and limits damage to the engine and surrounding components. ABC powder residue is mildly corrosive to metal and electrical components if it’s left in place, so the affected area should be cleaned promptly after a discharge. At Pyromatic, we can clean, inspect and recharge the system on-site, so your vehicle gets back into service with minimal downtime.

How often does a vehicle fire suppression system need servicing?

Our systems are designed for minimal maintenance and typically need servicing once a year. Some insurers require six-monthly servicing. Our FIA-approved engineers cover the whole UK. We offer ongoing maintenance contracts, emergency callouts and cost-effective recharging after a fire.
