Fire Suppression Systems Birmingham
Fire Detection & Protection for Your Business
As operators of heavy machinery ourselves, we noticed that many fire equipment suppliers either didn’t understand the specific risks or offered prices beyond our budget. After attempting to design and install our own fire safety and suppression systems, we decided to share our expertise with the wider industrial community in Birmingham and across the West Midlands, serving all B1 postcodes and the surrounding areas, such as Coventry, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Dudley, and Walsall.

Fire Suppression System FAQs
Birmingham and the West Midlands are home to large logistics, transport and manufacturing operations, where one fire can halt a fleet or a production line. At Pyromatic, our engineers install and service automatic fire suppression across Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Walsall. The FAQs below answer the questions local businesses ask us most.
What are fire suppression systems?
Fire suppression systems are engineered to stop a fire at its source before it can spread to the rest of a site. That’s why they’re widely used in the West Midlands’ factories, distribution centres and vehicle fleets. They sense heat, smoke or flame and automatically release an extinguishing agent within seconds. The agent can be a clean agent, CO₂, dry powder, foam or wet chemical. Our Guide to Fire Suppression Systems in the UK explains more.
What type of fire suppression do I need?
The type of fire suppression you need depends on your equipment and environment:
- HGVs, buses and delivery vehicles: an ILP system using dry powder, clean agent, or foam in the engine compartment.
- Production control panels, switchgear and UPS cabinets: a DLP clean agent system that floods the enclosure without leaving residue.
- Warehouses and storage areas: typically sprinklers, foam or dry chemical.
- Commercial kitchens: wet chemical.
What fire suppression do HGVs and delivery fleets need?
Most fleet operators protect the engine compartment with an Indirect Low Pressure (ILP) fire suppression system. Detection tubing runs past the hottest components and triggers discharge through nozzles aimed at the fire risk. Depending on the vehicle, these systems use dry powder, foam or clean agents. See our truck and vehicle systems to learn more.
Are bus operators required to fit fire suppression?
UNECE Regulation 107 requires an automatic fire suppression system in the engine compartment of new buses and coaches carrying more than 22 passengers. Our ILP systems for coaches and buses use Dry Chemical ABC Powder and are fully R107 compliant. Vehicles built before the requirement can be retrofitted.
Can you protect electrical panels in factories and warehouses?
Yes. Our DLP gaseous systems are designed for control cabinets, switchgear panels, UPS cabinets and other enclosures. The clean agent floods the cabinet within seconds and leaves no residue, so your electrical equipment is not damaged by the extinguishing agent itself.
What standards do your automatic fire suppression systems meet?
Our products are designed, manufactured and tested in ISO 9001:2015-certified facilities to comply with relevant safety standards, such as UNECE R107 and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Recognised Components.
At Pyromatic, we are a member of the Fire Industry Association (FIA – SP203-3) and are ISO 9001:2015 certified (Cert. No. 493782025) in our own right.
What does a fire suppression service involve?
Our engineers check and test every component: the cylinder pressure, detection tubing, valves, nozzles and any alarm or shutdown interfaces. We recommend servicing at least annually, or every 6 months if your insurer requires it. Servicing extends your system’s lifespan, ensures compliance with regulations, such as BS EN 15004 or BS 5306, and identifies wear before it affects performance.
How is the cost of a system worked out?
The quote is based on the number and size of the areas being protected, the extinguishing agent and the detection and discharge layout. Protecting one switchgear panel costs far less than equipping a fleet of HGVs. Call 01392 691891 or send us a message via our contact form with details of your equipment for a tailored quote.
