DSPA Condensing Aerosol Fire Suppression System Installation in Exeter, Devon

Fire Suppression System Installation - Renewable Asset Building - Pyromatic Fire Suppression

Project Snapshot

Renewable Asset Ltd (RAL) is a UK-based organisation operating energy and asset infrastructure in  Exeter, Devon, where fire risk arises from electrical systems, plant equipment, and enclosed machinery environments, as well as waste processing fire risks (such as lithium batteries, etc). These assets required an effective fire suppression system installation that minimises damage, downtime, and operational disruption.

The Challenge

We were asked to design, supply, and install Fire Detection and Suppression Systems for the whole site, including a Dry Sprinkler Powder Aerosol (DSPA) Condensing Fire Suppression System Installation to protect critical plant and equipment in the Turbine Hall, where hazards included HV electrical fires, volatile and high temperature/pressure fluids and rotating machinery.

The scope included:

The key requirement was to provide fast, reliable fire suppression without the risks associated with water-based systems or high-pressure gas systems.

The Solution

We implemented a DSPA Condensing Aerosol Fire Suppression System, tailored to the risk profile and physical constraints of the installation. The solution included:

  • Total of 48 aerosol generator units positioned for full volumetric coverage
  • Thermal and electrical activation mechanisms for rapid response
  • Integration with and installation of fire detection systems for automatic release
  • Modular system design for scalability across multiple asset types

The DSPA system was selected for its:

  • Effectiveness in electrical and machinery fire risks
  • Compact form factor, ideal for confined spaces
  • Minimal impact on protected assets compared to traditional suppression methods

Key Challenges & Approach

1.      Electrical Fire Risk

Critical assets presented a high risk of electrical fires.
→ The DSPA system provided rapid suppression at the source, reducing escalation risk.

2.      Space Constraints

Equipment enclosures limited installation options.
→ We used compact, modular aerosol generators to achieve coverage without major modifications.

3.      Asset Protection

In the Turbine Hall, water- or foam-based systems would damage critical high-value equipment.
→ The aerosol solution provided effective suppression with minimal residue and no water damage.

4.      Operational Continuity

Downtime directly impacted asset performance and revenue.
The system was engineered to detect and suppress fires early, reducing disruption.

The Results: Fire Suppression System Installation & Delivery

  • Detailed site survey and system design tailored to each asset
  • Installation by our trained engineers
  • Full commissioning and system testing
  • Provision of documentation, certification, and handover support

All works were delivered in line with our ISO 9001 quality processes, ensuring consistency and compliance.
